According to UN, to achieve SDG 6 or Clean Water and Sanitation, all household wastes particularly sludge and septage from septic tanks should be contained, transported, treated and disposed of in a safe and sustainable way.

Every month, Manila Water sends out desludging vacuum tankers to go around scheduled barangays in the East Zone of Metro Manila and Rizal Province to provide safe and effective siphoning services to its customers at no additional cost. Through this desludging caravan, customers can expect that the collected wastewater will be properly treated in Manila Water’s Septage Treatment Plants (SpTP) before being discharged back to bodies of water within its service area.
