Fire hits cinema of prominent Cebu City mall

CEBU CITY — Fire investigators are determining the source of a fire that damaged a portion of a mall in Barangay Mabolo here on Oct. 30.

In its report, the Cebu City Fire Department (CCFD) said the blaze affected only one cinema and it started around 10 p.m.

No one was hurt, but the damage was pegged at P1,280,000.

“We responded immediately, and our firefighters needed self-contained breathing apparatus for the response,” said SFO2 Wendell Villanueva, spokesperson of CCFD.

According to Villanueva, 11 fire trucks responded after the fire was raised to first alarm, prompting firetrucks from nearby villages to respond.

The blaze, he said, was quickly brought under control.

After nearly an hour, firefighters put out the fire.

The mall’s management has yet to release a statement about the incident as of Thursday afternoon.
